Tracking & Attribution Mechanics User Manual

Module: Tracking & Attribution (M4)

Product: ebosAi AMP
Classification: Public / End-User Documentation
Version: 2.0

Every referral link you share is powered by a high-speed redirection engine:

Your Audience Clicks:  https://app.ebosai.com/ref/{unique-slug}
                       ↓ (<50ms execution via Temporal & Redis)
Destination Loaded:    https://merchant.com/pricing?ref={unique-slug}
                       + 30-Day First-Party Attribution Cookie Set

Key Technical Characteristics:

  • Ultra-Low Latency: Redirections execute in under 50 milliseconds using in-memory Redis caching, preventing any drop-off from slow redirects.
  • Bot Filtering: Search engine crawlers and web spiders (Googlebot, Bingbot, Twitterbot) are filtered automatically, ensuring your stats reflect genuine human interactions.
  • Privacy Compliance (GDPR/ePrivacy): IP addresses are recorded only for abuse detection and are automatically anonymized after 30 days.

2. Attribution Hierarchy & Rules

The attribution engine enforces clear, deterministic rules to award conversions:

graph TD
    A[Visitor Signs Up] --> B{Active Partner Cookie Present?}
    B -->|Yes| C[Attributed to Partner from Cookie]
    B -->|No| D{URL has ?ref= parameter?}
    D -->|Yes| E[Attributed to Partner from URL]
    D -->|No| F{Marketplace / Organic Source?}
    F -->|Marketplace| G[Marketplace Attribution - No Commission]
    F -->|Organic| H[Direct / Organic Attribution]
  1. 30-Day Cookie Lifetime: When a prospective customer clicks your link, a 30-day tracking cookie is stored in their browser. If the user completes registration anytime within 30 days, the conversion is credited to you.
  2. Last-Click Wins: If a customer clicks partner A's link on Monday and partner B's link on Wednesday, partner B receives attribution upon conversion on Friday (standard industry last-click attribution).
  3. Private Browsing / Cross-Session Resilience: If the customer clears cookies or opens registration in a new tab with the ?ref= parameter intact, the system falls back to parameter attribution.
  4. Marketplace Exclusions: Signups originating directly through external marketplace bundle deals (e.g. AppSumo, DealMirror) are classified as marketplace sources and are excluded from affiliate commissions.

3. Interpreting Your Performance Metrics

Metric Definition Practical Meaning
Raw Clicks Total count of all HTTP redirect requests. Total interest generated by your promotion.
Unique Clicks Clicks deduplicated per visitor browser. Number of unique potential buyers reached.
Signups Number of accounts registered from your clicks. Successful leads delivered to the merchant.
Conversion Rate (Signups / Unique Clicks) * 100 Efficiency of your referral traffic (typically 2%–10%).
Pending Commissions Newly recorded earnings in holding status. Revenue waiting for the 30-day refund window to pass.
Approved Commissions Verified earnings ready for payment. Revenue cleared for disbursement in the next payout batch.

4. Attribution FAQ

A: Common reasons include: - The customer used a different browser or device that did not have the original tracking cookie. - The purchase took place after the 30-day attribution window expired. - The customer applied an external third-party marketplace discount code that overrides affiliate attribution. - The customer purchased a free trial plan that does not offer commission (if configured by merchant).

A: Yes. Wrapping your /ref/{slug} link in a URL shortener or custom domain redirect works seamlessly without interfering with cookie placement.
